Rabbi Elliot Kukla is a chaplain with the Bay Area Jewish Healing Center. Best known for his work examining stigma and diveristy in Jewish texts, Kukla has focused recently on developing liturgy that sanctifies moments of loss and transition. His lifecycle prayers are published widely and used in congregations across the country.
Faith and Practice
I chose to work as a chaplain in part because modern day leper colonies, the homes of those who are most estranged, are the places where God speaks to me the strongest. As a gender-ambiguous transgender person, I identify with them.
Faith and Practice
Rabbi Kukla writes, “holiness and madness inspire awe” and asks how we can use this spiritual knowledge to approach care of the mentally ill.
