Rabbi Jacob Staub is a spiritual director and a professor of Jewish philosophy and spirituality at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, where he was instrumental in founding the program in Jewish Spiritual Direction, a program he continues to direct. He served for six years as editor of The Reconstructionist. Staub is co-author of Exploring Judaism: A Reconstructionist Approach (Reconstructionist Press, 2000). His poetry has appeared in Zeek. He is on the faculty of the New York-based Nehirim: GLBT Jewish Culture and Spirituality, and he founded and directed its Shalshelet mentoring program. Staub served as guest editor of the Fall 2010 issue of Zeek.

How can one believe in God, when all of the descriptions of God tell us more about the imagination and values of the believer than they do about the ineffable? The answer: if you can conceive of God, then what you conceive is not God.
